RMT issued another leaflet yesterday outlining their demands, the three main points being that “LU must stop implementing whilst talks continue” which has already been done, “a 32 hour 4 day week” which I think should have had “LOL” at the end and that “LU must address all outstanding issues of dispute between us.”  After their list of demands for Night Tube they added two demands on “Fit for Future – Stations” so more than a year after they failed to get anywhere with strikes on the issue, six months after the closure of ticket offices began and with the reorganisation of station staff well underway RMT now want to piggy back this lost cause onto the current dispute.  10 out of 10 for tenacity….

  1. They have the first one agreed which is the main issue for the strikes so why walk out on 25/27th?

A 32hr 4 day week has been an aspiration for a generation are they actually saying they will strike every 3/4 weeks until they get that? If they are bye bye RMT on LUL!

Maybe someone could give me a reason why I as a driver should lose 2 more days pay when the only reason I agreed to strike action was to stop rosters being imposed?

    1. Yes we will be getting a 4 day week, 2 RD's and 1 strike day!
I feel that if ASLEF members are not strike and there is some sort of service this time, then the Management will not feel the pressure to give anything away to the other unions.

    2. Why is it up to ASLEF members to fight for the other unions?

ASLEF represents drivers and managers and fights for their terms and conditions.

The question has been asked on here before why are RMT still going ahead with strikes when Night Tube rosters are not being imposed and no one seems to have an answer except it's the executive of the RMT trying to act big!

    3. Yes ASLEF represents drivers........and who do drivers rely on anytime something goes wrong or they need assistance (in the main)? Yes, station staff! We are all transport workers, regardless of if a SS, train op, CSA or whatever so please get out of your bubble before it too burst. Stand together for goodness sake.

    4. No, YOU 'get out of your bubble'. How do needless strikes, pissing off London, help these 'station staff'?
Do you think drivers so unaware of value of all other grades? So can you imagine how we feel when seeing quite a few Station staff turning up over last couple strikes, solid other grades - and many during so-called FFS disputes?

    5. I was not aware as a Driver that station staff have been coming in during the last couple of strikes. There is a RMT reps meeting today (Wednesday) I am not sure if it is to discuss picketing for next week or to decide whether to call of the strike. By the way does anyone know. If the start date for night tube has officially been put back.

    6. Night Tube rosters will not be imposed - that's the company's position.

Whilst they may not have officially put back NT if rosters aren't being imposed there's no way staff will be working them.

My guess is that the RMT reps meeting will suddenly announce a miraculous breakthrough that allows next week's strikes to be suspended - that breakthrough.....that NT rosters won't be imposed exactly what ASLEF have been saying for the last week.

  2. With 20-20 hindsight, Bob Crow was the reasonable one

  3. I think that Cash, Hedley, Leach etc all want to prove themselves in the post Crow era.
Make of that what you will.

  4. Bob Crow kept the crazier elements of the RMT under control.

Sadly now the lunatics appear to have taken over the asylum.

I just hope they come to thier senses as it does no good to see a union collapse. I expect to see a large number of what remains of their driver members move across to ALSEF or worse just ignore their strikes and go to work.

  5. If any RMT members don't wish this strike to go ahead then you should tell your reps, there is a meeting for all the RMT reps on Wednesday, if enough members tell them not to go ahead then the local reps will listen. I don't see a great clamour to go on strike if, new Driver rostas have been withdrawn and also new station rostas are not starting until next March.

  6. Quite a few maybe but the vast majority do not come in (there are always a few in any grade including train ops). The few that do are either taking severance (which is a greedy and selfish action) or like recent strikes are on 12 month contract and so are too scared to strike despite our assurances (which you can understand). I agree no need for needless strikes but management have tried to push night tube through relentless like they have done with ticket office closures and by all unions working together it seems they have least stalled in their tracks. Management want you (ASLEF) on board then they can flood stations with admin and managers to break the resolve of the other unions. On our group alone which has nearly 180 station staff there are probably about a dozen of the same old suspects and believe me they do not get any favours from any colleagues when they do so.

    1. Indeed, it's a bit galling when you go out on strike and the people taking severance pop up all over, hoovering up as much overtime as possible before jetting off into the sun with their big payoff. I'm not the biggest union fan either but even I think that's taking the piss a bit

  7. When all trains on LU are operating automatically without a driver, ASLEF as a union will cease to exist. It will be the RMT representing the new train attendant role. This will be happening alot sooner than most people think. 2026 absolute latest.

    1. ASLEF will cease to exist on LU once all the lines convert to driverless operation but by LUL's own admission 70% of trains will still need drivers by the mid-2030s. ASLEF will continue to exist on the mainline where if there are any plans go driverless they are in the dim and distant future; they can't even afford to electrify the Midland Mainline.

  8. I can assure you all that the reason LU do "deals" with alsef and try to portray rmt as militant is precisely because LU know that in the near future only one union can operate on trains side, and that is the one they are trying to bash now, namely RMT.

    1. There have been no 'deals' done with ASLEF. You're actually a bit weird - are you Louise Mensch?

    2. Problem with your argument is ASLEF have not done any 'deals' with LU?

  9. Aslef have a shelf life on London Underground people. RMT will be slandered and ridiculed for the next ten years to try and weaken them. I know this as an ex member of the GLC. I attended meetings. I have evidence. I AM TRUTH.

    2. "I am the truth" - you are very funny and very wrong.

If anything the RMT will be non existent in the near future in LU.

Already their driver members are less than 30% and falling - my branch picked up 3 switchers this month. In the last 4 years our branch gone from roughly 50/50 split to 75/25.

Station staff losing confidence as the promises that they where given by RMT haven't been kept. Membership there will plummet - especially with the influx of part timers.

Depot staff are already losing faith with the overtime ban as it's now effecting them in the pocket big time - they will leave or move to Unite.

Managers already see no point in being in RMT as they have no support from the union, my local managers that are still in RMT rely on me letting them know what's happening - and they will join their colleagues and either switch to ASLEF or leave unions altogether if next week's strikes go ahead (they have supported the other disputes this year but see next week as a waste of time just as I do)

The lunatics spending time planning revolution whilst watching Celtic games - have you noticed how strike action and reps meetings seem to coincide with Celtic matches?

No-po trains will happen but well into 2030s but why the assumption that the staff on them would be RMT - more likely to be ASLEF as by 2020 I predict driver membership will be 95/5 - the 5% being the reps and the Celtic fans!!

    3. No driver,no drivers union. End of. I AM TRUTH

    4. Yes I like the comments about Celtic aren't they in that league whether either Celtic or Celtic are going to win the league? Look if anyone has the answer to how to sort out this mess of a dispute they would be up for Nobel peace prize.
Does anyone know how this dispute can be sorted out? Do we keep going on strike or do we compromise?

  10. 2009 stock and S stock are good for another 30+years.
Whatever their technical capabilities the vic line upgrade hasn't been designed for NoPO so 2026 seems a little optimistic to say the least.
